North Coast

Several spots located between the estuaries of the Ahonu river and of the Papenoo. A succession of beaches with rocky points well protected from lateral winds.

FAVORABLE WINDS

If the wind is feeble, less than 5 knots, all wind directions are good for surfing. For other conditions please find hereafter the wind directions with specifications.

Southeast to East to East Northeast and West to Northwest

  • Agitated water : look for protected areas or during nice weather, areas exposed to morning winds

Northeast to North Northwest

  • Wind stronger of equal to 10 knots : in the afternoon agitated water at the 2nd and 3rd bowl, quiet at the 1st.
  • Wind less than 10 knots : quiet towards slightly agitated waters in the afternoon.

East to East Northeast

  • Wind less than 15 knots : calm water, getting a bit agitated towards mid morning during periods of nice weather. Agitated with gusty wind
  • Wind stronger than 15 knots : agitated water 

All other wind directions

  • calm water

SWELLS - GOOD TO SURF

North to Northeast to East Northeast

  • Wave height in meters = (H1/3 in meters) x L x 1. For the calculation of the wave height, the coefficient "L" depends on the wave length of the swell. Use 1 for short swell, 1,5 medium swell and 2 for long swell.
  • Wave height between 1 and 4 m good conditions. 

Northwest to North Northwest

  • Wave height in meters = (H1/3 in meters) x L x 0.7
  • With a wave height between 1 and 4 m, the spot is good.
