The
Maraa passage is located on the southern coast at km 28.
The wave is massive and rather long, bowls tend
to shift and can cause large pipes. This spot being at the
southwestern point of the island, offers generally the
largest waves.
FAVORABLE
WINDS
If the wind is feeble, less than 5 knots,
all wind directions are good for surfing. For other
conditions please find hereafter the wind directions with
specifications.
East Northeast, Northeast
North Northeast, North and North
Northwest (below 10 knots)
- Calm water in the
morning, temporarily agitated in the afternoon
- Agitated water with
gusty wind.
SWELLS - GOOD TO SURF
West Northwest, West, West Southwest
- Wave height in meters = (H1/3 in
meters) x L x 1. For the calculation of the wave
height, the coefficient "L" depends on the wavelength
of the swell. Use 1 for short swell, 1,5 medium swell
and 2 for long swell.
- With a wave height of 1 to 5 meters,
the spot is good
- Comment : flat waves and well open
Southwest
- Wave height in meters =
(H1/3 in meters) x L x 1.2
- With a wave height of 1
to 5 meters, the spot is good
- Comment : Good waves
South-Southwest
- Wave height in meters =
(HI/3 in meters) x L x 1.2
- With a wave height of 1
to 5 meters, the spot is good
- Comment : Waves
occasionally closing. Good tubes.
UNFAVORABLE CONDITIONS
South to South-East swells create
closing waves which break occasionally to the left. These swells are not good to surf and make this spot dangerous
if the waves are higher than halve of the height of the
good waves. Calculation of the height of the waves for
these conditions is
South: H = (H1/3) x L x 1
South-Southeast to Southeast: H =
(H1/3) x L x 0.8
